If you have been searching for cricket practice near me and are not sure what to expect, you are not alone. Here are the most common questions we get asked before a first visit.
What is a cricket centre?
A cricket centre is a dedicated indoor facility built specifically for cricket training. Unlike a general sports hall, a purpose-built centre has features designed around the sport: full-length lanes, specialist flooring, high-powered lighting, and bowling machines. It means players can train all year round, whatever the weather.
HECC Cricket is based in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, and offers a full range of services for players from age five upwards. You can find out more on the HECC Cricket About Us page.
What facilities are available?
At HECC you get five wide indoor lanes, 20-metre run-ups for bowlers, ECB-approved specialist flooring with shock absorbers, high-powered lux lighting, and Bola bowling machines available to hire. The facility is open seven days a week from 9am to 10pm.
Who can use a cricket centre?
Anyone. Cricket centres cater for all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to players aiming for county squads. At HECC, the academy pathway covers players from age 6 right through to 18 and above, with programmes including the Junior Development Squad, Emerging Academy, and Senior Academy. Adult net hire and family sessions are also available.
The ECB also has helpful guidance on getting young players involved in the game at every stage. Visit the ECB Junior Cricket page for information on national programmes for children aged 5 to 11.
What does indoor net hire cost?
You book a lane for one hour and use it for batting, bowling, or a mix of both. Current indoor cricket net hire prices at HECC are:
| Session Type | Price per Lane per Hour |
|---|---|
| Adults (18+) or mixed nets | £36 |
| Under 18s or family hire | £28 |
| Solo Batting Special (adult, pre-5pm weekdays) | £30 |
| Bowling machine add-on | +£15 |
Clubs can block-book for the winter season, with discounts available for prepayment.
What coaching is available?
HECC offers one-to-one sessions, small group coaching, video analysis, skill workshops, and holiday camps. All coaches hold ECB qualifications. The centre is also home to the National Fast Bowling Academy and the Spin Academy, led by former England bowler Peter Such.
