National Fast Bowling Academy
HECC is proudly home to the National Fast Bowling Academy. The NFBA is a fast bowling
programme developed and managed by a team of expert coaches, current professionals and
specialist trainers, with one clear aim: to produce young fast bowlers capable of breaking into first-
class county sides.
Fast bowling is the hardest skill in the game to coach well. It takes a proper run-up, a strong and
repeatable action, and the physical strength to bowl quickly without breaking down. The NFBA
brings all of that together on full-length indoor lanes with 20 metre run-ups, so young quicks can
train seriously all year round.

What the academy offers
- Specialist pace bowling coaching focused on action, rhythm and pace.
- Real run-ups on full-length lanes, so you train the way you bowl in a match.
- Strength and conditioning guidance to help you bowl quicker and stay fit.
- A clear pathway towards club, county and first-class cricket.
Because we also offer integrated physiotherapy with a Chartered Physiotherapist, young bowlers
can be screened and supported to protect their backs and bodies, which matters more in fast
bowling than in any other discipline.
More than just pace
HECC is also home to the Spin Academy, led by former England bowler Peter Such, so whatever
your bowling style there is a specialist programme for you. Many of our young bowlers also work
one-to-one with our coaches and join our development squads and academies to round out their
game.

The Spin Academy has been developed to support gifted spin bowlers on their development journey. Led by former England bowler Peter Such, the Spin Academy is administered through a blended approach that relies on the world’s best spin practices.
