Cricket Coaching in Sawbridgeworth: Which Programme Suits You?

Looking for cricket coaching in Sawbridgeworth but not sure where to start? With several programmes on offer at HECC Cricket, the right choice depends on your age, your ability and what you want from the game. This guide compares the options so you can pick the programme that fits.

The two main routes

There are two ways to train at HECC Cricket. The first is the squad route, where you join a group programme through our development squad and academy pathway. The second is private training through one-to-one and small group coaching, where sessions are built around you.

Many players do both. The squad gives you regular structured training, while one-to-one sessions help you fix specific problems or sharpen a particular skill.

Squad pathway or one-to-one coaching?

Squad pathway One-to-one coaching
Best for Regular development with players your age Targeted work on your own game
Ages 6 to 18, grouped by stage All ages and abilities
Format Group sessions through the season Private sessions with an ECB-qualified coach
Focus Skills, game understanding and teamwork Technique, tailored drills and fast progress

Which programme matches you?

Complete beginners (ages 6 to 11). Start with the Junior Development Squad. It teaches the basic skills of the game and prepares young players for hardball cricket in a fun, supportive setting. The ECB junior cricket guidance explains how age-appropriate formats help children enjoy the game and progress at their own pace, and our junior programmes follow the same approach.

Club juniors (ages 12 to 14). The Senior Development Squad builds on club experience with structured coaching that develops every part of your game. Players in Years 7 and 8 who are ready for more can step up to the Emerging Academy.

County hopefuls (ages 14 to 18). The Senior Academy sits at the top of the pathway and supports young players who want to take cricket seriously. Adding one-to-one sessions and video analysis is a smart move at this level.

Adults. Grown-up players are best suited to one-to-one or small group coaching, where the pace and focus are set by you. Plenty of adults also book our indoor net hire for extra practice between sessions, with bowling machines available on every lane.
