'Sawbo take the League
in a Classic Final Clash'
Even Spielberg could not have written
this script! With the final game of the
season ending up as the clash of the
titans, Sawbridgeworth and Harlow really
did battle it out in a low scoring game
that had more twists and turns in it
than the ivy that once clung to the side
of the HECCSport barn!
Sawbo batted first but with the early
departure of Will Jones and Matt Birch,
both run out, the run scoring became
hard to come by as the pressure mounted!
Chris Howard and Danny Wilson steadied
the ship until Wilson was bowled by Nick
Baxter round his legs as tried to
manipulate the ball onto to legside.
Useful runs from Andrew O'Donovan (18
not out) and Paul James (16) offered
Howard (28 not out) some support. Sawbo
finished on 105 for 4!!
With the highest team score of 183 in
the league this year, 105 seemed to be
an achievable total! But as they say
pressure does funny things and after a
good start from Harlow openers Darren
Green (21) and Neil Gladwin (15) the
Sawbo spinners spun their web. Matt
Birch bowled arguably his best spell
this season with a return of 3-0-13-3.
Andrew O'Donovan (2-0-14-1) played his
part and with the Harlow middle order
blown out of the water Paul Mayhew was
finally run out for a resilient 15.
Harlow all out for 78!!!
Sawbridgeworth are the winners of the
2009 HECCSport Indoor Cricket League!

December 2008
'Dads do the Biz'
On the 28th December 2008 The
Sawbridgeworth U15 indoor squad (The
Lads) took on the Dads in an exclusive
7-aside, 18 overs per innings contest.
The Lads knocked up 149 runs in their 18
over with Tom Waring producing a superb
50! The Dads started their campaign
positively BUT after the successful
removal of Tony Hook by his son Matt
Hook the Lads battled hard leaving The
Dads a fair way adrift with one wicket
remaining. James Gostling bowled well
producing 2 maidens in his four overs.
However, the skills and experience of
Glen Gostling who finished on an
unbeaten 50 saw
The Dads home!! Already the talk centres
around the next Xmas fixture where I'm
sure the Lads will be looking forward to
setting the record straight!

'Grant Flower comes to
HECCSport'

Grant Flower the former Zimbabwe opening
batsman and left arm spin bowler (67
Test matches and 219 ODI's) and current
Essex all-rounder visited the centre
last week. Grant joined Ian Pont (fast
bowling specialist and bowling coach
many international cricketers including
Darren Gough and Dale Steyn!) for a two
hour session. Ian will be running his
MCi Academy here at HECCSport in the new
year with Grant heading up the batting
and spin course.
Grant was impressed by the facilities at
HECCSport and said that he was 'looking
forward to working here again next
month'.
Ian, who now uses HECCSport as his first
choice venue for 121's, camps and the
MCi Academy says ''The HECCSport nets
are some of the best in the UK. They
have full run ups and a surface that
plays almost like a grass pitch. This
makes it a premium venue for anyone
wanting to learn how to play cricket
properly.''
